Healthy living
If you are among the luckiest people in the world and you have a piece of land, don’t let it unattended.
A piece of land these days is a treasure! You don’t have to be extremely smart to start your own organic garden and working outside not only will improve your health, but you will be also happier after you will see the great results of your work.
If you don’t own any piece of land and you live in a big city, you can rent one small piece in a clean area. In time you will understand that this was one of the best decisions ever made.
The first rule is to check if the land was already used for agriculture and if chemicals were used.
The best option is to buy it someplace far enough from the pollution sources.
You can start growing your own organic tomatoes and steadily improve your health. Don’t rely on the so-called “Bio-Products”. Most of them just need to have a lower amount of chemicals to be considered as such.
How to start? Here are 9 steps:
- First, buy your plants only from private owners that are producing for their own families or you know them personally. A clean plant will produce clean and healthy products. Prepare the land for its first use if that’s the case and clean it of all weeds.
- Organize your garden in such a way that you will have easy access in all directions to have enough space to groom your plants. Even if tomatoes are not very demanding plants, they still need lots of attention.
- Use a drip irrigation system, since this will save you a lot of water and will provide enough water exactly where is needed: at the roots.
- Don’t use any chemicals! If you want to get rid of the weeds between the tomato rows, just use the space to cultivate salad or marigolds between the rows. Salad will keep moisture near the roots by offering shadow, and marigolds will keep the pests away. It will also make your garden look great.
- Prune the tomatoes correctly every time necessary. If you skip this step, your plants will grow very high and they will produce just a few tomatoes. The plants don’t have to be 2 meters high.
- Use collected rainwater to water the plants. This is the best solution to avoid high costs and it’s the best water you will ever find.
- If your plants are attacked by parasites or diseases, use only natural remedies against them. One of the best solutions I used was “nettle water”. This will provide the best protection against all pests and it’s very easy to prepare. Just search the web for the recipe.
- Remove any wilted leaves. They are not used anyway and they will delay the growth of the entire plant.
It’s also a very good idea to cover all roots with soil if they are going out. Always keep an eye on your water system, since water it’s a vital element for your crop.
9. If you want to use a fertilizer, the best way is to use it before starting to cultivate your tomatoes and the best time to do it is in the autumn. You can use only compost fertilizer or animal fertilizer. Don’t use any chemicals even if they promise a lot. You don’t want to get poisoned by them.
Besides all, tomatoes need lots of love and they will reward you with great-looking and healthy tomatoes that will make you very happy. It’s not only that you will taste the real taste of a healthy product, but you will be amazed by the flavor and you will never want to eat those artificial things that you find in the supermarket.
